Futsal is a variant of association football that is played on a smaller pitch indoors. Its name is a portmanteau of the Portuguese futebol de salão and the Spanish fútbol de salón (colloquially fútbol sala), which can be translated as “hall football” or “indoor football”. During the sport’s second world championships held in Madrid in 1985, the name fútbol Sala was used. Since then, all other names have been officially and internationally changed to futsal.

Futsal is played between two teams each with five players, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines; walls or boards are not used. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular football.[1] The surface, ball and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.(The introduction of futsal content is from wikipedia)

Artificial grass: a man-made material designed to look like natural grass.

All weather training: one of the key advantages for artificial grass used in a sporting environment is the ability to use the surface in most weather conditions.

Artificial turf: another term for artificial grass.

Astro turf: is a brand of artificial turf. Though the term is a registered trademark, it is sometimes used as a generic description of any kind of artificial turf. The original AstroTurf product was a short pile synthetic turf while the current products incorporate modern features such as antimicrobial protection, rubber infill, backing systems and nylon yarn fibers.

Base: used to refer to the ground immediately below the artificial grass. Typically the base is compacted sand and grit. Our artificial grass installation guides give more details.

Colorfast: the artificial grass color should be stable and not fade or alter over the life of the grass.

Collector board: feeds the yarn down to the needles which tuft the artificial grass yarn into a polypropylene backing.

Colors: there is increasingly a wider range of colors of artificial grass. Apart from green artificial grass we also manufacture white artificial grass (used in Christmas displays, Santa’s Grottos) and blue artificial grass (popular for promotional and corporate events). As a manufacturer, we can also other colors depending on customer requirements.

Creel: a highly specialized term used in our artificial grass factory – the creel holds the bobbins of yarn.

Critical Fall Height: a term relating to the fall height below which a life-threatening injury would not be expected.

Cruises: artificial grass is often installed on cruise liners. In an environment where natural turf is clearly impractical this offers an ideal, colorful yet low maintenance solution.

Dtex: a manufacturing term relating to yarn measurement; an abbreviation of Decitex, it is the unit of the linear density of continuous yarn – equal to 0.90 of a denier or 0.10 of a tex.

Directional pile: when laying artificial grass you need to check to see if there is a directional pile within the yarn. Very much like matching patterns when pasting wallpaper this is a simple and easy check to do.

Drainage: it is important that surface water can drain through the artificial grass and disperse through the base material. Our artificial grass factory has specialised equipment for the perforation of drainage holes in the artificial grass. Guidelines for suitable base material can be found within our installation guides.

Durability: the potential for artificial grass fibres to stretch not tear. Helps maintain optimum condition.

Infill: generally refers to sand and/or rubber mixes.

Fibrillation: this term refers to how the fibres with artificial grass are split into “leaves” or “stalks”. The pattern of the fibrillation is important to hold down any infill used.

Fake grass: another term for artificial grass.

Faux grass: another term for fake grass.

Fire resistance: artificial grass should be tested to ensure that it is fire retardant – Our Lifestyle® grass is fire retardant.

Global warming: artificial grass will become more popular as the impact of global warming becomes more apparent. The low maintenance and little need for water make it an environmentally friendly alternative to real grass.

Hotels: hotel chains are now installing artificial grass as a low maintenance solution for improving the environment around the hotel.

Hours of play: a term used when evaluating the benefits of artificial grass on a sports pitch as opposed to natural grass. For instance artificial grass used in a heavy duty sports stadium might be rated at 1,500 hours over 6 years. This compares to say 300 hours of playing life from a natural grass pitch in one year. However the life of artificial grass is dependent on the usage and maintenance.

Installation: one of the key parts to a successful artificial grass lawn are the choices made at the installation stage. The choice of the base as well as whether or not the work will be done “in house” or subcontracted. AGL can provide advice and assistance on your selection of installer.

Lifestyle benefits: Increasingly this is becoming one of the main reasons for installing artificial grass. The low maintenance and independence from water shortages makes artificial grass an attractive proposition.

Maintenance: one of the key lifestyle benefits of artificial grass is the low maintenance needed to maintain the grass. Typically brushing and rejuvenation are all that is needed but this must be done on a regular basis. AGL provides a complete maintenance guide following installation.

Membrane: a membrane can by installed between the artificial grass and the base to help prevent any weed growth. It can also sometimes advisable to install a similar porous membrane underneath the base. Always discuss any questions of this nature with your chosen installer or ask our Customer Service Department for advice.

Monofilament: strand of untwisted fiber.

Monofilament yarn: monofilaments twisted together, giving a yarn strand.

Multi-toned: some types of artificial grass offer different shades of color to provide different effects.

Pets: artificial grass is used by an increasing number of dog kennels as it offers a more hygienic and easier controlled playing surface than bare grass or just a dirt and dust yard. All the evidence to date suggests that dogs treat artificial grass just like natural grass.

Pile: the carpet of yarn on top of the backing.

Pile recovery: how quickly the pile will recover from being compressed. Important for artificial grass used as a sports surface.

Plastic grass: another term for artificial grass. Plastic grass was once a popular reference term in connection with football – ie. ‘plastic football pitches’. Today artificial football pitches are more commonly referred to as having ‘artificial grass’ or ‘artificial turf’.

Playgrounds: the high level of wear around equipment can lead to uneven surfaces and muddy conditions which reduce playing time. Artificial grass combined with a shock pad underlay offers a good alternative.

Pollution: artificial grass offers reduced pollution and damage to the environment. There is no need for fertilisers and the consequent damage from water run off. It has also been documented how much pollution can be created by cutting natural grass – both from the energy used to power a lawn mower and from studies on the gases released from cut grass.

Porosity: the artificial grass needs to allow rain water to sink through to the base.

Rejuvenation: a term from the sports application of artificial grass – used when maintaining artificial grass pitches used as playing fields. A purpose built machine is used to lift and clean the rubber crumb.

Roadside verges: a growing use for artificial grass. Local authorities are also increasingly using artificial grass on roundabouts and car park verges.

Picture: fake grass verge with grass made in our factory

Roof gardens: an ideal use for artificial grass, easy to lay, low maintenance and usable all year round.

Sand dressed pitch: used in sports applications, the sand infill usually comes to within 10 mm of the tip of the fibres. The infill cannot readily be seen.

Sandfilled pitch: again a sports term, the sand infill reaches to the top of the fibres producing a hard and rough surface.

Seams: when installing artificial grass you will usually need to join different rolls together. Using seaming tape and glue gives a secure seam or join.

Shock Pad: for some installations a shock absorbent underlay is used. Children’s play areas and schools will typically use a shock pad underneath the artificial grass. The thickness of the shock pad will determine the CFH (Critical Fall Height) and be a key influence for any risk assessment.

Softness: the thickness of the fibres is usually a good indication of how soft the artificial grass will be. Ideally the fibres will form a soft pile which will remain upright.

Stitches per 10cm: another manufacturing term; the number of stitches per 10cm dictates the grass carpet pile weight.

Swimming pools: artificial grass is often used as a surround for swimming pools. Ideally there is a separation of up to 3 feet between the pool and the grass to minimise damage by chlorine.

Synthetic grass: another term for artificial grass.

Synthetic turf: another term for artificial grass.

Tear resistance: a term used to denote the strength of the fabric especially when used in a sports environment.

Top up: with any sand infill artificial grass product, the infill itself (sand or rubber crumb) will periodically need to be topped up. Largely depends upon the amount of use.

Total cost of ownership: the sum of all the costs from installation through to disposal. A high quality artificial grass with a long life will usually have a lower total cost.

Unfilled pitch: this is where the pile within artificial grass is unfilled. Used in sports applications, these “fast” surfaces are favoured for hockey pitches. They need regular wetting and are sometimes referred to as “water-based” pitches.

U.V. stabilised: this means that ultra violet light should not degrade the colour of the artificial grass. As a manufacturer of artificial grass, we test our products to ISO standards for UV resistance.

Water shortages: a key driver for introducing artificial grass. For instance, in Arizona water is so short that residents are given financial incentives to install artificial grass and substantially reduce their water usage.

Yarn: specialist yarn made of polyethylene and polypropylene is used for artificial grass manufacture – we use only top quality from the world’s leading, specialist supplier.

Yarn height: a manufacturing term; yarn height is equivalent to the pile height plus the stitch through the backing.

Yarn sheet: another manufacturing term, this is what you see when looking at the many strands are yarn passing down through bars to the needles for the tufting process.

Artificial Grass for Homes is Good for the Environment

Artificial grass for homes is environmentally friendly and promotes water conservation when compared with natural grass. Artificial grass will prevent you from using harmful pesticides that will cause water and air pollution. Some manufacturers produce synthetic grass that is biodegradable. Artificial grass with proper maintenance can last for more than twenty years.

Natural grass will require you to apply pesticides, mow, water, fertilize, weed, thatch, winter over seed and irrigate. A list this long will make you think twice especially when you are busy. Synthetic turf, on the other hand, will save time and money because you will only need disinfectants, irrigation, water hose and a stiff-bristled brush for its maintenance. It is the best choice as artificial grass for townhomes.

Artificial grass for homes will use disinfectants to remove urine and droppings. It is also used to kill any bacteria that persist to remain. It is important to water your turf occasionally so that your infill which contains sand or rubber will not move or shift. Watering it maintains the color, prevents damage and for cooling purposes in days with high temperatures. The stiff-bristled brush or rake is used for redistributing infill and eliminate debris before hosing it down.

Artificial Grass for Homes is Easy to Clean

Now, that you know it is easy to clean. It is also good to know the advantages of installing artificial grass for homes instead of natural grass. Synthetic turf is versatile and it can be shaped according to your desire. It can be installed quickly and easily on your own if it poses a challenge. You can hire a professional landscaper if you prefer to sit back and watch their magic. There are good artificial grass for sale for less.

Extreme weather conditions will not be an issue when you install artificial grass because it can withstand any climate without discoloration. It will not wash away even when heavy rains struck your home because of its “infill” surface. When you decide to use artificial grass instead of natural grass you must consider it as a long term plan like marriage. It may be costly once installed but if you compute the money saved over time you will see the difference.

Artificial grass for homes does not aim to cheat you with the real thing but allows you to enjoy the beauty of nature with less work and maintenance. Artificial grass for homes will give you the comfort of lush, green lawn all-year round.

The advantages of PU coating(Polyurethane coating):

1. Improved resistance to tearing
The polyurethane is distributed evenly among the fibres, which thus have better adhesion to the backing.

2. The carpet lasts longer
Compared to latex, polyurethane does not crumble or degrade. Aging tests have demonstrated that even under extreme weather conditions, polyurethane will help the scarpet to last longer.

While there is significantly less maintenance with ArtTurf than with natural grass and competing artificial grass and synthetic turf systems, some tasks are necessary to ensure your artificial turf continues to perform at the highest level.

There are 4 basic maintenance operations that all ArtTurf artificial turf fields require according to our recommended maintenance schedule. We simply call them Brushing, Aerating, Raking and Sweeping.

ArtTurf Artifical Sports Field Maintenance
1.Brushing – Rejuvenates the matted fibers and levels the top portion of the infill.
2.Aerating – Minimizes risk of slight compaction, by penetrating and loosening the infill with rotating tines.
3.Raking – Prevents fibers from matting down and ensures infill is loosened.
4.Sweeping – Ensures debris doesn’t get into the infill.

Other necessary maintenance procedures should be done periodically and according to ArtTurf’s maintenance guidelines.
Inspection of line markings and seams – In the unlikely event that line markings or seams come apart, then you need to repair them as soon as possible.
Infill topdressing – For high traffic areas, rubber may need to be added to the top layer of infill.
Snow Removal – Snow must be removed according to field-friendly guidelines.
